CABO DEL ESTE

Cabo del Este is located at the southeastern end of the Baja California peninsula, bordering the Gulf of California and the Sierra La Laguna. It is inhabited by 3,134 people settled in 10 coastal and 6 non-coastal communities (INEGI, 2020). The terrestrial and marine ecosystems are home to a high biodiversity, with 42 species protected by NOM-059. In addition, Cabo del Este is home to the Cabo Pulmo National Park, where the largest coral reef in the Gulf of California is located; The conservation of this site has been essential to maintain the local fishing reserve, which is key to the economy of communities such as Los Barriles or La Ribera (sport fishing and eco-tourism). Part of the La Laguna Biosphere Reserve is also located there, which is a very important reservoir of water for the south of the Peninsula.
